Driving and Errands

Senior transportation in Atlanta. Rides with someone who walks in alongside them.

Giving up driving is one of the hardest losses, and the one that shrinks a life fastest. This is not a taxi: the caregiver goes in, waits, helps with the bags and remembers what the doctor said.

What a caregiver does

  • VA and medical appointments
  • Pharmacy, grocery and bank runs
  • Church, the barber, the hairdresser
  • Help with bags, doors and waiting rooms
  • Errands run on their behalf when they would rather stay in

Who this suits

Someone who has stopped driving, or should, and a family that cannot keep taking mornings off work.

Giving up the keys shrinks a life

Losing a driving license is rarely just about transport. Church stops, the barber stops, the weekly shop becomes somebody else's errand, and within a few months a person who was independent is dependent on whoever happens to be free.

Driving is often the service that holds the rest of a routine together, and it is the one families most often try to cover themselves until the mornings off work run out.

Not a taxi

A rideshare drops someone at a door. A caregiver parks, walks in, sits in the waiting room, helps with the bags and remembers what the doctor said, which matters when the person who went in alone cannot reliably repeat it afterwards.

For VA appointments in particular, having somebody who can take notes and hand them to the family afterwards is worth more than the ride itself.

The practical bits

  • Minimum four hours per visit, with no minimum number of days a week.
  • Care usually starts within 24 hours.
  • A written plan with the hours, the tasks and the weekly cost before anything begins. See how it works.
  • Nurse-owned, and licensed by the Georgia Department of Community Health as a Private Home Care Provider, permit PHCP010959.

Not sure what your parent actually needs?

That is the normal starting point. Describe the week and a care manager will tell you what would actually help, including if that is less than you think.

Straight answers

Driving and Errands: common questions

Whose car is used?

Tell us at the home visit. Some families prefer the caregiver drives the client's car, others prefer the caregiver's. Both happen, and we will confirm the insurance position for whichever you choose.

Can a caregiver run errands without the client?

Yes. Shopping, prescription pickups and bank runs on their behalf are all normal, particularly in bad weather or when someone would simply rather stay in.

Do you drive to VA appointments in Atlanta?

Yes. Appointments at the Atlanta VA are a routine part of this for our veteran clients, and we schedule the hours around the appointment rather than the other way round.
