Companion Care

Companion care in Atlanta. Someone in the house, and someone who notices.

Often the first service a family asks for, and the one that is easiest to accept. It is also how we spot the change that matters: a caregiver who comes twice a week notices the weight loss, the unopened mail and the new bruise long before anyone else does.

What a caregiver does

  • Conversation, cards, a walk around the block
  • A hand with the phone, the TV remote and the post
  • Company at appointments and on outings
  • Keeping an eye on appetite, mood and steadiness
  • Telling you when something has changed

Who this suits

Someone living alone who is lonely rather than unwell, and families who want a regular, reliable check on how a parent is really doing.

Loneliness is a health problem, not a mood

Someone living alone who has stopped driving can go four days without a conversation. Appetite drops, sleep goes, and the decline that follows gets put down to age when a good part of it is isolation.

Companion care is the cheapest intervention we offer and often the one with the largest effect on how a week actually feels.

The early-warning value

A family two hundred miles away, or thirty minutes across Cobb in traffic, finds out about a change weeks late. A caregiver in the house twice a week finds out immediately: the weight loss, the unopened post, the new bruise nobody mentioned, the medication box that has not moved since Tuesday.

We tell you. That is part of the service, not an extra.

The practical bits

  • Minimum four hours per visit, with no minimum number of days a week.
  • Care usually starts within 24 hours.
  • A written plan with the hours, the tasks and the weekly cost before anything begins. See how it works.
  • Nurse-owned, and licensed by the Georgia Department of Community Health as a Private Home Care Provider, permit PHCP010959.

Not sure what your parent actually needs?

That is the normal starting point. Describe the week and a care manager will tell you what would actually help, including if that is less than you think.

Companion Care: common questions

What does a companion actually do for four hours?

Conversation, cards, a walk, a hand with the phone or the television, a trip to the shops or the barber, and usually a meal. It is not a watchful silence in the corner; it is someone being company while the ordinary business of a day gets done.

Can companion care include driving?

Yes. Rides to appointments, church and the shops are part of it, with someone who walks in alongside them rather than waiting in the car.

Is companion care cheaper than personal care?

Usually, because it is not hands-on. Price depends on hours, when those hours are, and the type of work. You get a written number after the free home visit.
